Buying a St. Louis Park Condo? Back off the Emotions

Love at first sight can be expensive, most especially when you’re purchasing something as expensive as a home. Oh, don’t get me wrong, I know only two well how easy it is to lust after a home. If this is your first experience in purchasing a condo, however, it’s important to keep your emotions in check because there are many temptations along the way.

Color

I can’t tell you how many of my clients turn down perfectly good and well-priced St. Louis Park condos for sale because they “hate” the color of the walls. “It’s only PAINT!” I long to scream but I typically like my clients and that wouldn’t be nice so I don’t scream it.

To paint a 1,000 square foot condo in St. Louis Park will run you between $700 and $850. That’s to paint the entire unit.

The trick here is to try to look past the garish colors – envision the walls painted with your colors.

There’s a flip side to paint color: It can also hide flaws. I’ve seen condos painted with trendy colors and lousy floor plans fly off the market. Again, try to ignore the color and look at the bones of the unit, the size of the rooms and the flow of the floor plan before allowing yourself to fall in love.

Furnishings

Have you ever rented an apartment by first looking at one of the models? There’s a stark contrast between that model and the empty shell you’ll move into. The staged models are the enticement, with the table attractively set for dinner and designer furnishings placed just so.

It’s the same with some condos for sale. A smart homeowner will stage the condo before putting it on the market. A smart homebuyer will be able to look past the allure – or lack of it in some cases – of the furnishings and concentrate on the fundamentals of the unit.

Accessories

A condo owner’s accessories can be distracting, whether they are tasteful or just clutter, you may find yourself looking more at these than at the home’s true features.

Keep in mind that whether intentional or not, these items can easily distract you from what’s important to you in a home. Ignore them and you’ll be fine.

St. Louis Park has an amazing array of condos for sale, whether you’re seeking a view of the park from your penthouse unit or a townhome in close proximity to the city’s conveniences. Shop smart and you’ll find your perfect home.
